Land topography and sea bathymetry are derived from a USGS 4 km global elevation grid, so each pixel covers 16 sq. km.
Our globe is spherical, the oblateness of the Earth being too small to make a difference on images of this size.
In the view descriptions, we specify the "locus" of the view. This is the latitude and longitude of the centre
of the view. All views are perpendicular to the globe surface at the locus (in other words, looking at the centre of the globe/Earth).
