We invite you to view index and coverage maps for the Continental Maps and Regional Maps.

These maps are perfect for marking up to illustrate your projects. They also make nice posters for your wall. The maps are based on the standard Mercator projection and share the same attractive colour scheme and shaded relief finish. They show only topography and have no other markings - click HERE to view a typical map detail. Click HERE to open and save a height legend for the maps. Learn more about the maps on our About the Mercator Basemaps page.

The map descriptions include a "View/save latitude/longitude data" link - this opens a small .pdf file which you will find useful if you want to add a grid to your map. For an explanation of "pixel size", see the "About the Maps" page.

To keep download file sizes practical, the maps are supplied as 8-bit/256 colour .png files. The resolution of each map is pre-set so you can print your purchase on A4- or Letter-size paper straight away. This resolution is much higher than necessary for a sharp print, so in the map descriptions we also give the size when printed at a normal publication-quality resolution of 120 dpc/300 dpi. However, they appear sharp all the way down to 60 dpc/150 dpi, so realistically you can print up to double the stated sizes.

The maps are large enough for you to cut out and work on smaller areas that may be of interest to you. We have included some tips about cutting and resizing on our "About the Mercator Basemaps" page - if you would like to go to this page now, click HERE.
